Mission and Vision

To provide a first-rate basic sharia and comprehensive Tasawwuf and peace education from an Islamic perspective, inspired by Quran, Sunnah and original works of earliest Sufi Masters and Practical training through social engagement.

This kind of education means students will be able:

To think spiritually: that is, 1) to have a basic understanding of the Quran and Hadith scriptures and of the Sufi tradition, and 2) to be able to relate scripture and tradition, in a reflective and constructive way, to their life experiences and the challenges confronting today's world.

To evaluate issues from an Islamic and Spiritual perspective: that is, to be global in outlook and dialogical in method as they reflect upon the correlation among Islamic theological resources, other branches of knowledge, and contemporary issues of significance.

To act responsibly: that is, equipped with the necessary intellectual, moral, and spiritual tools and sensibilities to engage faithfully and responsively in the world for the promotion of peace and justice.

Shaykh ul Islam Institute of Spiritual Studies will strive to propagate:

  • That the vast array of practices and ideas associated with what we call tasawwuf today are based on the Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet;
  • That the excesses of Sufism in contemporary movements are considered against these texts and instructions;
  • The negative effects of marginalizing Tasawwuf in the modern period and the overemphasis on rational and orthodox aspects of the religion; and
  • That bringing Tasawwuf back to a prominent role will benefit the internal harmony of a person, the internal harmony of Muslim communities and help the Muslim community to get rid of extremism form their thought and practice.
